PLAY DATE

PLAY DATE is a research series exploring how free, purposeless play from childhood can be reintroduced in adulthood despite social inhibitions and the lack of dedicated spaces.

The PLAY DATE OBJECTS demonstrate how free play can create new forms of social interaction and expand cultural, social, and spatial environments.

Play is most effective in togetherness. In groups or pairs, adults find it easier to break social norms and let go of disciplined, controlled behavior. Shared play creates a sense of safety, reduces inhibitions, and encourages adults to reconnect with their playful instincts.

PLAY DATE took place in a bar, where playful movements were situationally integrated into the context of social gathering and casual interaction. Playful gestures could seamlessly blend into familiar activities, allowing adults to engage naturally without disrupting their social environment.

The rocking tables, „WIPP-TISCH“, for example, only works through cooperation. It combines physical play with social interaction, creating a space where adults can relax and play together simultaneously.

Similarly, the rocking bench „WIPP-BANK“ focuses on shared play and movement in interaction with others. It invites different forms of engagemen and remains deliberately open in function. At the same time, it can appear as a playful element both in public space and in everyday situations, whether while waiting, conversing, or simply lingering.
